Insey Winsey Spider is a unique way to learn about counting and simple shapes through a favourite nursery rhyme.
There are two versions of play in this game, giving children the opportunity to learn and practice numbers through counting the number of spaces moved: and recognising simple shapes. The object of the game is to be the first spider to reach the top of the waterspout.
Children roll either the number die or shape die (depending on which version of the game they are playing) and move their spider up the spout. But watch out! Every turn, they will need to spin the spinner to see if the sun stays out. If the rain comes, it will wash their spider back to the start and they will have to start their climb again!
To add an extra element of fun to the game, why not sing the Insey Winsey Spider nursery rhyme while you play!
This game requires a little bit more focus than some of the other games we have played from Orchard Toys as there are quite a few components (the die, the spinner, and the game pieces); as well as two different versions for your Little Sprouts to choose from.
Our Little Sprout prefers the shape version of the game as it generally seems to run a little quicker – however, both versions of the game can be played multiple times in well under half an hour – great for short attention spans and tight schedules!

Insey Winsey Spider has been designed to support and encourage:
Development of Number & Counting Skills Development of Personal & Social Skills Development of Shape & Matching Skills Observational Skills
We’ve found Insey Winsey Spider also supports:

Fine Motor Skill Development
Spinning the spinner, rolling the dice, and positioning game pieces on the board.

Language & Literacy Development

Understanding of their World
Cause and effect – when the sun stays out, the spider is safe; when it rains, the rain pushes the spider back down the waterspout.

Imaginative Play
Our Little Sprout loves playing the with spiders and other game pieces to create her own little stories & games – she even sometimes gives the spiders names and different roles to play such as Mummy, Daddy and Baby Spider.
