Game Review: Cake Monster

Writer's picture: MelMel

Cake Monster is a colourful, ‘tasty’ way to learn how to count. This game gives children the opportunity to learn and practice numbers 1-10.

The object of the game is to collect and count cakes and try to fill your cake stand first.

Children will use a spinner to spin a number between 1 and 10, find the number on the number line and choose a matching cake from the pile to add to their cake stand.

After choosing a cake piece, you flip it over to see if the number on the back matches the number you spun – if it does, you get to keep it and add it to your cake stand – but be careful, if you already have one of the same type of cake you miss a turn!

An extra fun element of this game is the cake monster! Some cake game pieces don’t have a number on the back, they have a picture of the cake monster and he is really hungry! If you get this cute little fella on the back of your cake piece, you have to feed it to the monster – be sure to make lots of hilarious monster chomping noises when you do!

This game can get loud but it’s fun! Our Little Sprout even likes using the cake pieces to make patterns and we have also discussed the features of the different cakes to support colour and shape recognition while we are playing a round or two.

Cake Monster is a quick game and you can have a round or two in well under half an hour – so there’s no excuse not to have a bit of fun with your little ones!
