Friday Fun: World Rat Day

Updated: Oct 16, 2023

World Rat Day - April 4

Do you have rats as pets? Then you might already be privy to a little secret: despite all the myths and misconceptions, these animals are in fact friendly, loyal, intelligent and very endearing. Rats notoriously receive bad press, World Rat Day hopes to dispel the stigma surrounding these creatures and celebrate them instead!

Dive a Little Deeper

World Rat Day is all about tackling rats’ bad rap, and that's easier than you might think!

You might like to:

Research rat facts and share them with family or friends (this might be on the internet, on a trip to the library, or watching a documentary or YouTube clip)!

Read some popular rat-inspired tales and flip them on their heads - how could you change the Pied Piper of Hamlin tale to show rats in a better light?

Have a rat-themed party! Face painting and costumes anyone? Rat-inspired games showcasing their fabulous features?

Or you might even want to get your own pet rat, learn about native rodents (or visit some)!

Some ready-made fun:

Learn about the great features of rats & introduce animal cruelty issues with the PETA book & lesson package.

Rat Anatomy with Twinkl or Rat Anatomy complete unit.

The Ultimate Guide to caring for your pet rat.

This paper Rat Dissection Model is awesome (note: it is a paid resource but everything we've ever purchased from Getting Nerdy with Mel & Gerdy has been fabulously worth every cent!).
