I have just recently finished reading a wonderful book called Homeschool Gone Wild by Karla Marie Williams. Not only does it have a colourful and engaging front cover; the inner content was just as colourful and engaging.
Karla paints a picture of homeschool life that is vivid and real; something that I think nearly every single person would find points to connect with.
She gives no illusion that her homeschooling journey (or yours) is or will be a picnic – there will be great days and struggles, and all of it is part of a bigger picture – supporting your children to learn in the best ways possible!
Karla goes a long way to dissolving myths surrounding unschooling and creates a spectrum of unschooling principles that are accessible to everyone.
She is clear that there is no guide book for unschooling or even for homeschooling that will fit each and every family – but she gives useful tips, strategies and first-hand experiences that have shown her different ways to engage, connect with and support her children. As well as help her family to grow, learn and be themselves – in the best possible ways for them!
GRAB A COPY FOR YOURSELF HERE:
This wonderful, eye-opening journey into unschooling is divided into four sections:

PART ONE
Our Journey to Homeschooling
Where Karla gives an insight into their transition to home education. You get the opportunity to walk alongside Karla through her struggles, concerns, and roadblocks – and you get a sense that she is walking alongside you on your journey too, she gets it!

PART TWO
A New Way of Thinking
Where Karla dismisses some common misconceptions about unschooling and showcases lived-in methods for walking toward the unschooling path. You get insight into Karla’s vast knowledge of child development and needs – where she answers questions and addresses concerns you didn’t even know you had!

PART THREE
Walking it Out
Where Karla clearly outlines the best methods for approaching unschooling for different ages and stages. You have the opportunity to see her process from Littles to Teens, and how this approach gives children the building blocks they need for future success!

PART FOUR
What’s Next?
Where Karla gives you the opportunity to workshop your own home, notions of schooling and mindsets; and create a workable model that supports everyone in the family – not just the children. You get an opportunity to identify your dreams and make an investment in your interests and goals that will benefit your children AND process all you have read about unschooling to begin plotting your own pathway! Another bonus to this book is the YouTube videos that support each chapter – if you are a visual learner, Karla has you covered!
My Recommendation:

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is just starting out on their homeschooling journey, thinking about homeschooling their children in the future, or those that want to make change in their current homeschool but can’t quite put their finger on what needs to stay and what needs to go! Karla’s extensive experience with working with and advocating for children, as well as homeschooling her own six children, makes for an entertaining, enlightening and rewarding read that will have you turning pages frantically to find out what comes next! This is a book that will have a permanent place in our home library for those days when we need reminding that homeschooling has the potential to be anything you want it to be, colour outside the lines!
